There is no region of Italy, on this front the Bel Paese can be considered truly unique in the world, where it is not produced. Wine, celebrated in history as the nectar of the gods, conquers and brings everyone into agreement. Always.
Be it red, white or rosé, still or sparkling, it accompanies a ritual that can be lived in solitude or in company, stealing moments of intimacy or conviviality. In the top of the glasses we find the yellow of gold, the red of garnets, the vivacity of the ruby, the scents associated now with the presence of earth, water and fire, and then the thousand aftertaste ranging from flagrant to fruity, from the delicate, to the acute and pungent, to the balanced one. A carousel of colors and flavors, virtues and delight for eyes and palate.
To the stories of wine, a powerful aphrodisiac of the soul, we will be able to dedicate rivers of words.
In central Italy, among the Marche, Umbria and Tuscany regions, many refined Docs are produced that we often find served in tables all over the world. Very beautiful are also the cellars that hide and preserve not only hectoliters of goodness, but also secrets and traditions.
Housed between a farm and a 14th century villa, Villa Vignamaggio awaits you in Greve in Chianti.
The Renaissance villa is the work of the Gherardini family, whose fame is linked to the legendary figure of Monna Lisa de Gherardini, the famous Gioconda portrayed by Leonardo da Vinci. The similarity between Via Maggio in Florence (birthplace of Mona Lisa) and Vignamaggio, led many to mistakenly believe that the Mona Lisa was born here. For this reason, even today, the figure of the Mona Lisa is linked to Vignamaggio.
It is to the famous noblewoman that the company has dedicated the classic Chianti large selection “Monna Lisa” produced, alone in the best years, with the company grapes from the best vineyards.
Another company historian is Vignamaggio’s Cabernet Franc produced with grapes coming from vines over forty years old, rediscovered by chance in the 1990s. The wine that is obtained escapes from traditional patterns. In fact the very low production per plant and the rather warm climate of the area, make this wine full and rich in elegant tannins.
The charm of Tuscany, to be experienced absolutely in slow mode, will conquer you even more if you live your holiday in one of the enchanting villas of www.homelikevillas.com.
Also in Tuscany the Rocca di Frassinello project was born. Here it is at the center of the Maremma, between Bolgheri and Scansano, exactly where a sort of geological foot arrives that has the same characteristics as the lands of Chianti and Montalcino, of which in fact it is a sort of extension towards the sea. So lands like those of the two most famous wine-producing areas of Tuscany, but with a substantial difference: from 4 to 6 degrees centigrade with a higher average temperature and, therefore, a capacity for maturation of the grapes in an advance of even three to four weeks.
In this area, so incredibly suited for the cultivation of vines, the first, and to date the only, Italian-French joint venture project for the production of wine took shape. The agreement between Castellare and Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, or the most famous signature of the wines of France and the world, has put together the experience of Castellare in the cultivation and vinification of the main Tuscan vine, the Sangioveto, and that of Lafite on classic French vines, Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz. The project, already extremely ambitious, was further enhanced by a deliberate choice to crown the birth of the Rocca di Frassinello winery with the most prestigious of possible signatures: that of Renzo Piano. A visit here is total satisfaction for the eyes and the palate.
A special edition wine, the Renzo Piano Senatore, was also dedicated to the creator and designer of this winery, which aims to celebrate the particular investiture of one of the most famous Italians in the world today. Among the limited editions there is also the Wine of Peace, a special series of the first Rocca di Frassinello label – Le grand vin, the Rocca di Frassinello – to celebrate the holy year.
For your dream stays in Val d’Orcia waiting for you, you will find Villa la Quiete, a charming country villa dating back to the first half of the 19th century, located in the valley of San Quirico, near Grosseto. The Villa, surrounded by cultivated fields and green as far as the eye can see, has been skilfully restored bringing to light the ancient volcanic tuff, typical of the Maremma area.
Enchanting is also Villa Torre del Mare which appears in all its majesty in a magical position overlooking the blue sea of the Grosseto Maremma. Originally this fortress was a Spanish lookout tower, it was later restored to be a luxurious villa surrounded by a lush garden with typical Mediterranean plants. Equipped with a private road, from every corner you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Argentario and the islands of Giglio and Montecristo.
Equally beautiful to see, to return to the Tuscan cellars, also Cantina Petra.
Near the ancient village of Suvereto, land of suvere, majestic oaks that produce cork, on the iron hills of the Val di Cornia and with a view of the Tyrrhenian Sea: it is here, in the spectacular nature of the Maremma, that the magic of this winery is born where the “Quercegobbe” is produced, a real cru from which the Merlot grapes of rows located on the edge of the Mediterranean scrub come from on a well-ventilated hill overlooking the sea.
