How about returning to visit that branch of Lake Como that turns at midday, a place made famous by Manzoni in the Promessi Sposi, attracted perhaps by the good smell of excellent cuisine at zero kilometers and by the rich and genuine flavors that often refer to the past?
Along the banks dear to the Hollywood star George Clooney, just to take away a whim of the truly unique ones, we suggest the molecular cuisine of the Mistral restaurant in Bellagio, directed by chef Ettore Bocchia, passionate lover of Mediterranean cuisine, great researcher of raw material of very high quality and anticipator of new solutions of gastronomic excellence.
An exciting experience, perhaps a little trendy, that the chef of the grand hotel Villa Serbelloni presents as “the authentic essence of the invisible”. The restaurant, reviewed by the best Italian food guides, has been awarded a star by the Michelin Guide. A lunch or dinner at the Mistral offers the pleasure of an unusual experience between innovation and tradition on the banks of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
The most beautiful terrace on Lake Como, however, is that of the grand hotel Tremezzo. Its restaurant, which is called La Terrazza and not surprisingly, has been managed for years by the master of all Italian chefs, Gualtiero Marchesi. The recipes especially highlight the freshwater fish caught in the day and always fresh.
You can have dinner arriving directly by boat, or reach it on foot passing inside a suggestive lemon house, also at the CastaDiva Orangerie, super-luxury structure that has carried out a renewal and qualification project in the area’s catering. The veranda that allows you to sit in summer and winter to enjoy an enchanting view of the waters illuminated, perhaps, by the moon alone, is beautiful.
Instead, the restaurant of the grand hotel Villa Feltrinelli in Gargnano, on Lake Garda, has won two Michelin stars. The structure, among the most beautiful in the world, has its own charm. In the dish you will find flavors that become memories and compositions that can be admired as true works of art. A cuisine that comes first of all to the heart, made of research, quality and passion. Uniqueness is the unmistakable signature of chef Stefano Baiocco who interprets traditional flavors with skilled hands and ever new creativity, between simple ingredients and more complex and refined components.
On the Garda there are other starred hotels with a unique taste – together with Villa Feltrinelli also the Lido 84, Tortuga, Capriccio, Esplanade and La Rucola – but we suggest you take a detour, if you are looking for something truly unusual, at Il Rivale di Padenghe, a suggestive location set in a newly refurbished 17th century building surrounded by greenery. Dinner in the cellar is a truly suggestive experience.
It is not really a lake view but it is located in the capital of food, Salò, and one of the most famous Lombard taverns is the Osteria dell’Orologio, a must for anyone who wants to savor traditional Garda cuisine and the flavors of the past.
The local historian, together with the Antica Trattoria alle Rose, boasts years of gastronomic history, however offering the diners a more informal environment than the Roses, but always guaranteeing the same quality and excellence of the dishes. Here you can sip a good glass of Valtenesi wine, but also Franciacorta and Lugana, or simply enjoy a few slices of good salami accompanied at aperitif time.
To pursue the myth of the great chefs, there is always the possibility to play the card of Villa Crespi, in Orta San Giulio, where the dishes are those of the tradition of Antonino Canavacciuolo: from south to north Italy a true fusion of flavors and pleasures!
Inspired by the tradition of its land of origin, Campania, and by adoption, Piedmont, and by the simplicity of the flavors of the house, it offers an always surprising cuisine, characterized by the use of excellent raw materials in a harmonious fusion between past and present for an engaging and exciting Mediterranean-creative cuisine.
Finally a suggestion for Lake Iseo. If you want to eat unattained air-dried sardines, go to the Soardi family’s Locanda del Lago. It is since 1948 that the Soardi family has been engaged in catering, not only looking for an increasingly complete and adequate service aimed at satisfying even the most demanding palates, but also seeking the best products to offer; first of all the fish, caught directly, the oil selected from the Montisolane crops, the wine giving the right importance to the territory and then to Franciacorta, all this served with professionalism and sympathy in the splendid “fairytale” setting that you can admire in all seasons comfortably seated on our terrace directly on the lake.
A good lake view dinner? What …else..?
