Red as desire, red as passion, red as the love that moves the sun and other stars. The Mof – Macerata Opera Festival – brings in the arena designed and built in the 1800s by Ireneo Aleandri, a color that leaves much room for interpretation and, at the same time, imagination.
From #rossodesiderio the facades of the monumental open-air theater are colored, opening the 55th edition of the opera season with the new production of Bizet’s “Carmen” on 19 July (replicas 28 July, 3 and 10 August). Instead, from the Verdi catalog were chosen “Macbeth” (replicas 26 July and 4 August) and “Rigoletto” (replicas 27 July, 2 and 9 August).
This year’s program is richer than ever: in addition to the evenings at the opera, even concerts – seven -, stage parties, aperitifs in the gallery and then the great rite of the Night of the Opera, Macerata Opera 4.0, the activities for the little ones, the conferences and meetings for a city in celebration until August 11th. Among the Palco Reverse novelties, with Sergio Rubini and the Piazza Vittorio Orchestra, the acrobatic dance theater of the Kataklò and then the lives of Loreena McKennitt, Neri Marcorè and Raphael Gualazzi. Finally, at the Lauro Rossi theater, a world premiere: Can you HearT me?
We look at the territory and the future with the great rite of the “Night of the Opera” on August 1, which will present eight new shows selected through a call for tenders. You look towards other musical worlds with the concerts of Loreena McKennitt (24 July), Raphael Gualazzi (7 August) and Neri Marcorè with a tribute to Fabrizio De André (11 August). The collective experience of the 100 Cells led by Giovanni Sollima and Enrico Melozzi (31 July with two premieres on the 29th at the Terrazza dei Salesiani and on 30 July at the Terrazza dei Popoli with I percussionisti del GUS) will fill the streets of the city, asking for hospitality in the homes of the same citizens of Macerata and thanks to the availability of the Salesians.
At the end of three opera performances there will then be the possibility (only for 199 people) to spend a few more hours at the Sferisterio not in the stalls but on the stage, thanks to three theme parties to which it is possible to participate with an additional ticket (10 euro): 26 July Macbeth. On the anniversary of the landing – event that in 1969 granted one of the most recurrent among human desires – testimonial of the Macerata Opera Festival 2019 will be the Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli, protagonist, on August 5th at the Garden of Thinkers.
There is no shortage of initiatives to involve children: “Jesters, witches and other stories: I’ll tell you” will be a cycle of three courses dedicated to those between 6 and 11 years old proposed by the Association Amici del Sferisterio in collaboration with the Association Cultural CTR and the support of Trevalli Cooperlat: Carmen on July 23rd at the Torre del Boia, Macbeth on July 30th at the Garden of the Blood Donor, Rigoletto on August 6th at Palazzo Buonaccorsi (again at 6pm).
